The State Tournament semi-finals are here and we took on the Wescon Fillies. Both teams had some nerves going into this game and it showed on the play for both sides. We continued to battle and shots started to fall, our defense led to transition points and we found ourselves up 25-10 at the half. Wescon turned up the defensive intensity in the 2nd half and we looked very bad, taking bad shots, throwing errant passes; which led the Fillies to get on a mini run and close the lead to 7. We eventually got on the right page and we handled their pressure and we won the game, 40-26. Our scoring attack was led by Juliana Houldcroft (Newington HS, 8 pts), Megan and Sara 7 pts apiece. Brenna Roy (Stafford Springs HS) and Zoe totaled 8 pts, 5 steals, 4 assts, throughout the course of the game.
       We made it to Championship Sunday, in a rematch from pool play were facing a Lady Blazers team who already beat us. Both teams came out a little slow and sluggish as both teams failed to execute on offense. As the time went on the Blazers started to find the basket, however we failed to cash in on our great looks around the basket. We missed on 11 opportunities to score on lay-ups in the first half, while the Blazers extended their lead. We found ourselves down 26-16 at the half. Our shots started to fall in the second half as we cut the lead to 4, behind the hot shooting of Amanda (5 pts), Carrie (6 pts) and Brenna (4 pts). The Blazers answered the call; their defensive intensity doubled, which led to some easy transition points. We battled back, behind the drives to the basket from Megan (10 pts) but the Blazers were too much on this day! Final Score, Blazers 51-36.
       **** The Silver Medal was well deserved as we played great basketball over the course of the two week span. I’d like to thank you for all the support from the parents and we look to continue to get better each and every week. Lastly, like to wish a speedy recovery to Brittney as she was injured in our Semi Final game.
